After your enquiry

What Happens Next

These are possible enquiry stages, not guaranteed progression. Review times vary according to the project and material requiring consideration.

  1. 01

    Submit an initial enquiry

Introduce the work through the secure Manuscript Submission enquiry route.

  2. 02

    Receive a reference

A successful enquiry receives a TOMIO reference that should be retained for future correspondence.

  3. 03

    Enquiry review

TOMIO reviews the information provided. This does not guarantee review of a full manuscript.

  4. 04

    Additional material where relevant

TOMIO may request further manuscript material where the project appears potentially relevant to its publishing programme.

  5. 05

    Possible editorial discussion

Further discussion may occur where TOMIO wishes to explore the work, editorial direction or publishing expectations.

  6. 06

    Separate publishing decision

Acceptance, contractual discussion and any publishing decision remain separate from the initial enquiry.

A manuscript enquiry does not guarantee review of a full manuscript, acceptance, publication, a contract or a specific response time.

Manuscript FAQ

Questions about manuscript enquiries

What types of manuscripts does TOMIO consider?

TOMIO may consider fiction, short stories, non fiction, poetry, anthologies, essays, African literature, and cultural and social commentary. Each project is considered for quality and publishing fit.

How do I make an initial manuscript enquiry?

Use the secure TOMIO Contact form with Manuscript Submission selected and provide a concise introduction to the work.

Should I send my full manuscript immediately?

No. Introduce the work through the enquiry form first. If TOMIO requires additional manuscript material, it can be requested during subsequent correspondence.

What information should I include?

Include the author name, title, genre or subject, synopsis, author introduction, approximate length, current status, previous publication information and relevant rights context.

Does my manuscript have to be complete?

Explain whether the work is complete, in development or at proposal stage. This information helps TOMIO understand the project but does not mean every incomplete work will be considered further.

Can previously published work be considered?

Disclose whether the work has been published, contracted, appeared in another form or remains subject to publishing rights. Previous publication does not create an automatic decision.

How will I know my enquiry was received?

A successful enquiry receives a TOMIO enquiry reference. Retain it for future correspondence; it is not an online tracking number.

How long does review take?

Review times vary according to the nature of the project and material requiring consideration. TOMIO does not publish a guaranteed response timeframe.

Does submitting guarantee publication?

No. A manuscript enquiry does not guarantee full manuscript review, acceptance, publication, a contract or a specific response time.
